African and Oceanic Art at Sotheby’s

Sotheby’s will hold a sale dedicated to the arts of Africa and Oceania on June 21 in Paris. Fewer than eighty lots will be offered, with every object rigorously selected for quality and representative of a wide variety of artistic traditions. Originating from West Africa, Polynesia and Melanesia, together they present a striking assemblage of masterpieces in clay, wood, shell, and a multitude of other materials. More than half the sale will be comprised of African works, including historically significant pieces immediately recognizable to art aficionados.
