Probably used to store milk, this rare wooden vessel bears geometric designs carved in low relief and rests on a circular base. The motifs accentuate the piece's satisfying curves, as well as its extraordinary patina, which indicates many years of daily use.
Like much of the material from the region, it is difficult to identify with certainty the precise region of manufacture, stylistically similar examples can be found amongst the Matabele, Shona and Tsonga peoples. |
