INKOMO KAMAMA

Artist: Clive Sithole
‍
Born in Johannesburg, Clive Sithole has developed a practice rooted in Zulu ceramic traditions, enriched by his exchanges with master potters across South Africa and his work with Magdalene Odundo in the United Kingdom.

Widely regarded as the first male Zulu ceramic artist to devote himself fully to a field historically dominated by women, Sithole reinterprets traditional izinkamba beer vessels through bold sculptural forms and incised imagery inspired by cattle, ancestral figures and the landscape. His work is represented in several important collections, including the Eskenazi Museum of Art in Indiana and the North Carolina Museum of Art.
