Artist: Jabulile Nala
Born in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal, Jabulile Nala belongs to one of South Africa’s most distinguished families of ceramic artists, whose traditions extend back to the early twentieth century. Building upon the legacy of her mother, Nesta, and grandmother, Simphiwe, she creates striking sculptural vessels that both honor and challenge traditional Zulu forms. Her work is distinguished by inventive silhouettes and intricate surface patterns. Nala gathers red and grey clays from sites near her home, maintaining a close connection to the materials and practices of her ancestors. Her ceramics have been exhibited internationally and are held in public and private collections.
