Suspension Hook - Papua New Guinea

A compelling suspension hook with large, sharply defined face. Into features of textured umber are set cowry shell eyes, a fierce mouth with jagged teeth, projecting tongue and an arrow-shaped nose that plunges from a dark brow. The darkened cheeks cleverly act as both cheeks and as a second pair of eyes. The septum is pierced and the ears have holes that would have once been adorned with earrings.

Good wear to the suspension hole and hook indicates significant age and use.
